Maria Hernandez came to the United States from Cuba 8 years ago. Maria brings to StarShine her incredible sensitivity, warmth, her sense of pride in her work, and the ability to reach any child. Maria is beloved by all the students and teachers. While officially Maria is the StarShine cook as well as maintenance person, she is best known for her wonderful advice, words of encouragement, and her tenderness. She is truly a mother to us all.

Maria also brings her rich culture, language, and respect for all people. Her integrity and work ethic are unmatched. Not only does she work hard each week ensuring that everyone is taken care of, she is consistently the first person to volunteer for after school activities or community events held at StarShine. A mentor and a friend to all, Maria is the embodiment of the StarShine Effect.

Maria believes that StarShine will continue to grow and expand. She would like to see this model in every state and in other countries as well. She is a firm believer in the family oriented atmosphere at StarShine and would like to see other students benefit from an environment like this one.
