Jan Shoop M.ED.

Principal, Special Education Coordinator

Jan Shoop believes strongly in educating each child on an individual level in order to best utilize their talents and grow their potential. No child is the same, therefore education must be tailor made to fit each student. Shoop combines her excellent education with her vast professional experience as a teacher, administrator, and successful businesswoman to provide all students of Starshine Academy the opportunity to succeed.

While she sets the bar high and expects the best not only for herself, but for staff and students, her ability to reach the unreachable student at StarShine is a testament to her caring and nurturing side. As a School Administrator, Regional Manager, and Special Education Coordinator for Ombudsman Educational Services for five years, she worked with some of the toughest students in the Valley. She embraced the challenge of working with at-risk students, helping them achieve goals they didn't think were possible. At the same time, she was developing curriculum, opening and developing new schools, and evaluating and monitoring student progress in the special education program.

Drawing on her time at Ombudsman as well as her first ten years of teaching experience at Mesa Schools in elementary and special education, she is an excellent mentor for StarShine Academy teachers and staff. She is laser-focused on professional development and ensuring that all StarShine teachers are receiving the best mentoring and professional development available. Opportunities are provided throughout the academic year for teachers and administrative staff to continue their education as well as to attend a wide variety of seminars. Teaming up with StarShine Founder and CEO Trish Adams, she makes sure that staff meetings are anything but routine and boring. Viewing the time as a way for the staff to think outside the box, she encourages the staff to take control, sharing their experiences in the classroom and becoming the cohesive team they need to be to address the needs of the students.

While education is her passion and vocation, Shoop is an accomplished and successful businesswoman as well. As Founder and President of Shoop Wholesale Vending, Inc., she generated over 2.5 million dollars in annual revenue with a staff of 25 and became one of the Valley's success stories. Applying her experience in business to StarShine Academy, Shoop works creatively to achieve lofty goals even on a lean budget.

Recently appointed to the FY2007 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Committee of Practitioners (COP), Jan Shoop will be a representative for Charter Schools in the state of Arizona. She is honored to receive this appointment and takes her responsibility as a Charter School representative very seriously. This appointment is further evidence of her unwavering commitment to excellence in education.
